Last update: 2008-04-10 03:34:57
The new passports shall be 4 times more expensive than the present ones. Passports with a microchip will be issued at the end of this year or in the beginning of the next year. The issuance should have already started in November last year as announced in the summer of 2007 by the Ministry council. Yesterday the Minister of Interior Rumen Petkov explained that maximum clarification is needed for the smooth run of the whole procedure. At the same time there are a lot of questions from companies on the exact requirements for the new passports which is also slowing the process. The biometrical personal documents will be approximately 4 times more expensive than the present passports. The price will be between 100 and 120 leva. For comparison now the international passport costs 30 leva. Having a new passport will not be obligatory but when the old one expires a new one with microchip shall be required. The new documents will have a special chip integrated in the back cover. On the microchip will be recorded personal data of the owner such as finger prints and special pictures of the face containing unique for each person characteristic marks.
