The procedure for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship will be facilitated

The work of "Bulgarian citizenship" department is based on the strict observance of the Bulgarian Citizenship Act and all the procedures connected stipulated in it. At this moment there are about 60 000 applications for Bulgarian citizenship. Bulgarian authorities have difficulties with processing the applications as about 60% of the documents that verify Bulgarian origin are not authentic.
The procedure for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship includes consideration of applications in other departments, including the Agency for Bulgarians abroad. The Ministry of Justice will make a proposal to the participating in the process departments for allocating additional officers in order to process applications for Bulgarian citizenship quicker. According to the Ministry of Justice the mediation of companies is not necessary and the submission of applications should be made only by the citizens. Applicants who live abroad will be able to submit their applications in the Bulgarian embassies and consulships. In this way at the very beginning of the procedure all the invalid, inaccurate or incomplete documents will be removed and the corruption practices will be restricted.
