The chairman of the Bulgarian parliament Mr Georgi Pirinski shall support the vote for the direct participation of the Bulgarian citizens in the management of the state act. Also more than 50 nongovernmental organizations and institutions sent to the national deputies a signed declaration named "Let's give the bill for referendum a chance". The bill was passed on firsts readings in July 2008.
At the present moment the plebescite has no legal matter nor effect and even an enormous amount of signatures and declaration is gathered they will not matter.
The new propositions include lowering the count of deputies that could ask for a referendum - from ¼ to 1/10 or 24 people. Also the bill foresees that the results of the referendum become automatically due and binding instead of them being approved by the parliament.
