The Bulgarian president puts veto upon the Election of deputies act

The Bulgarian president George Parvanov turned back the bill of the Election of deputies act for another discussion at the National Assembly.

The president wanted the deputies to review the part that amends the already existing normative order and arranges the new election minimum.

The deputies increased the election minimum for party coalitions from 4 to 8 percent, while the election minimum for parties remained the same.

The president offered more than once to increase the requirements for the registration of the parties, as this will put a barrier for the phantom parties who are serving business interests. The election minimum of 4 percent has been applied for more than eighteen years and it has proved its positive effect. This minimum corresponds to the established standards in the election systems of the countries of the EU.
