Parents who stop their children from going to school shall be deprived of their parental rights. The Ministry of Education is working on the bill and preparation of a new School Education Act. This type of sanction shall be applied only as a last resort. Before it there should be imposed other sanctions, including fines. The Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Education - Mr Atanasov, pointed out that as the Protection of Children Act foresees deprivation of parental rights for parents who put in danger their child's health and life, the prohibition of attending school classes and child's right of education should be put under sanction. If a child is left without any education he/she goes straight to the line of socially weak people and that is the main reason for undertaking of such harsh measures against bad parents. Parents whose children have a lot of unexcused absences from class shall be fined with between 500 and 5 000 BGN. Other type of sanction for irresponsible parents shall be doing of socially useful labour. This sanction shall be applied to parents who do not have the financial means to pay their fine. Community service shall be done also from children with bad discipline in class. The new bill for school education also foresees the return of the behavior grades.
